Short Story Playing With Fire English Literature Essay

Short Story Playing With Fire English Literature Essay Mental scatters I performed fantastically in school, had generally close associations with my family and kept a polite gathering of companions; be that as it may, the entirety of my contemplations, activities and feelings could be tossed into confusion with seeing a solitary fire. Arsonist tendencies, it was called. It was likewise the motivation behind why I was constrained by my mom to result in these present circumstances inept gathering recovery focus. Wherever I went, there was a thick air of strain between everybody that appeared to be difficult to break. In spite of this condition, for as far back as month, I had the option to keep my self-restraint every day with the organization of one young lady. From the absolute first day, she was the main individual in the room who wore a grin the whole time. With long, earthy colored hair, differentiating her light complexion, and a look of certainty all over, I thought of no motivation behind why she ought to be here. Until I saw somet hing which profoundly charmed me: Her emerald green eyes, in contrast to the remainder of her appearance, didn't mirror a similar warmth and energy. Or maybe, they had a nonstop melancholic look that would consistently part with her actual feelings, so I tended to abstain from looking at her without flinching at whatever point I conversed with her. Today, as I plunked down along the control of the walkway, from my back pocket, I took out a plastic compartment and flicked the little wheel, lighting a little, however firmly consuming fire. You shouldnt be smoking at your age. It will just end with a long and agonizing demise. I dont smoke, I said as I pivoted to confront the voice, arsonist tendencies is not quite the same as a nicotine dependence. Casey, I swear I disclosed this to you recently. She plunked down alongside me, inclining in towards the fire. Ok, however its despite everything dependent on a similar rule isnt it? Fire, demolition, and demise. She had a somewhat tormented appearance all over before she included, How you can discover the flares lovely? They just help me to remember torment and setback. Dont behave recklessly, Parker. Youre just going to get scorched. I consider that occasionally also, I answered. What had caused this undesirable proclivity towards the blazes? This incredible dependence towards fire? From the outset, it was only an interest as a youngster, however there was a point in time where it totally assumed control over my activities. The occasions of that night waited with me even at this point. Everything about recorded profound into my recollections; from the warmth of the fire, to the lighter I used to set the house ablaze㠢â‚ ¬Ã¢ ¦ Stand aside kid, came the blunt voice of a cop. Go get your folks. Its undependable to be here. I was generally pushed behind the yellow police tape as the official rushed back to his vehicle, and the sound of alarms became stronger. From a protected separation, I stopped, hypnotized by the rough orange blast that kept on overwhelming the house before me. Dots of sweat started shaping over my temple from the singing warmth transmitted by the consuming house. Twenty minutes: that was all it took for the house to be totally eaten up by the consuming flares, and for the whole structure to start self-destructing. Thick surges of smoke gathered, making it increasingly more hard to inhale as the fire expended the oxygen close by. The popping of the wooden shafts became stronger, with the house on the edge of breakdown. All of a sudden, a young lady separated from the group and ran towards the flares, just to be kept down by a similar official as in the past. My folks are still in there! If it's not too much trouble Somebody, anybody, help them! I-I dont need them to㠢â‚ ¬Ã¢ ¦ yet her final words were cut off as the remainder of the supporting pillars fallen. Tears flooded from her eyes as she tumbled to the ground, totally vulnerable and damaged. On the other hand, from in the midst of the frenzy of the horde of spectators, I remained totally quiet, never looking away from the burst for a solitary second. It was too lovely a sight to turn away from, as the flares proceeded with their move in the breeze. It resembled a goliath campfire, sending flashes flying all over the place. The night sky was enlightened with its splendid orange gleam, making it as brilliant as day. I came to advance, feeling the warmth of the fire become more grounded against my palm, and for only a couple of seconds, time appeared to stop㠢â‚ ¬Ã¢ ¦ This was over eight years back; I was just ten years of age. I heard the next morning that the occupants of the house didn't endure the burst from that night, yet at that age, I couldnt recognize life and passing, nor did I understand the seriousness of my activities. Right up 'til the present time, I despite everything can't review the specific purpose behind lighting the fire. Everything I could recall was seeing the gleaming blazes in the night, lamenting nothing. However, for these eight years, I had been harboring this memory to myself, declining to tell a spirit. Prior on, I pondered telling Casey, yet subsequent to seeing her tormented articulation towards the littlest glimmer of a fire, I couldnt force myself to do as such. For the month that Ive known you, Ive saw that you space out a great deal, said Casey, exhibiting her point by waving her deliver front of my face. Grinning, she proceeded, the smell of the lighter liquid must be influencing your mind some way or another. I came back to the real world. Acknowledging she was correct, I answered, I can fix this issue fine and dandy without your information. In any case, why dont you ever talk about your issues for once? Its been a month, I despite everything think nothing about you. I dont even know why you looked into recovery in any case. That is to, apparently, theres nothing amiss with you. It was my choice to make, Casey answered, watching the passing vehicles out and about. All things considered, why dont you help yourself out? Settle up with this exhausting place and spend the rest of the times of summer back home with your family. What do you know? Have you at any point thought to consider that Im here which is as it should be? I cannot come back to my family regardless of whether I need to. She stood up suddenly, and began strolling back towards the recovery place. Out of drive, I stood up too, looking. Just because, I saw her frown, however what was unquestionably all the more scary was the threatening vibe in her look; even from a reasonable separation, I could detect it. My remark certainly hit a nerve. Prior to arriving at the entryway, she thought back one final time and stated, Its going to rain. You should head inside the office soon, and she hammered the entryway behind her. Exasperated, I took out my lighter, attempting to light a little fire to facilitate my strain, yet it was no utilization. Out of lighter liquid, I moaned, so at long last, you got what you needed, to some degree. Sick need to get another one tomorrow. I sat down along the check of the walkway, when minutes after the fact, I felt a light shower of downpour against my skin. What an insightful individual. For the remainder of the week, I stayed away from Casey, until I saw her weaving something blue in the entryway. I chose not to begin a discussion with her. Rather, I plunked down in a seat opposite her, gazing eagerly at the tedious movements she made as the texture developed longer. Sooner or later, she murmured lastly addressed me. Im sewing a scarf to put on a teddy bear. Its for my infant siblings birthday. I havent seen him in some time though㠢â‚ ¬Ã¢ ¦ Her voice was discouraged, yet she proceeded, however I have a license to go visit him and my family tomorrow. This is an ungainly inquiry, yet do you mind accompanying me? Sick comprehend in the event that you cant, yet youre one of only a handful barely any individuals that I trust here. Sooner or later of reasoning, I figured out how to give a gesture and everything was arranged out for tomorrow. As she left the hall, her grin had returned. Much to my dismay that there was a lot more that she escaped me behind that grin. At precisely 10 AM, I come back to a similar detect that I sat in yesterday, and I saw how void the whole hall appeared without Casey there. At any rate, I was certain the disposition would change when she showed up. Five minutes passed; fifteen minutes passed; forty five minutes passed, and I turned out to be suddenly stressed. I mulled over going outside to light a fire with my lighter, however it would be horrendous for her to see me like that. Rather, I chose to go get her. In any case, this was more difficult than one might expect, on the grounds that the recovery place had numerous rooms, and I had no clue where she was remaining. All things considered, I went around the structure searching for her, looking through each passage, checking the yard, thumping on ways to inquire as to whether anybody knew where she was staying, yet without much of any result. Exhausted, I delayed and passed by the young ladies washroom, when I heard quieted crying originating from behind the entryw ay. Could that be her? Pulling up nearer, I called her name, yet there was no answer. As cumbersome as it was to enter, my anxiety for whoever was in there exceeded my shame. In any case, I was shocked at what I found. It was Casey, however not how I anticipated. She was perched on the floor, crying, her correct arm covering her eyes, yet not the tears from her face. From a separation, I could see the flash from the red tinted sharp edge on the tiled floor. Her left arm was loaded up with scars, with three new cuts stumbling into them. A constant flow of blood spilled out of them, enough to frame a little puddle of red next to her. Hastily, I ran towards her, removed my sweater to absorb the blood and I held her in my arms. Her crying just became stronger, yet as she laid her head on my shoulder, I felt powerless, realizing this was everything I could accomplish for her. For what appeared endlessness, we remained that way, her wails in the long run subsiding to a slight cry as I murmured Its alright again and again. Her voice unstable and in quieted tones, she stated, My child sibling and my folks arent really alive. They spent away eight years prior. There was a shocking fire that set my home ablaze. I figured out how to escape securely, yet my folks, they thought I was still inside. They returned inside for me, and they never returned out. They yielded themselves to no end, and it was my shortcoming! I wish I had passed on rather than th

Why You Should Not Use Climate Change Essay Samples

Why You Should Not Use Climate Change Essay SamplesWhen it comes to climate change, many think about how bad it is and what to do about it. Many are concerned about rising sea levels and other disasters caused by the warming of the world's climate. This may be true, but what about climate change essay samples? Here is a look at some of these samples and why you should not write about them if you want to be successful. The first example is acid rain and the burning of fossil fuels. These were both catastrophes that we did not want to see happen, yet it did. A trend in weather patterns can bring on these effects, so do not use the first paragraph as a way to discuss the subject. The second example is carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere. The process that takes place with the release of carbon dioxide takes the form of photosynthesis. This is the natural process by which plants receive energy from the sun. Humans, on the other hand, take the carbon dioxide and release it into the atmosphere.Since carbon dioxide has become too much for our atmosphere to handle, it begins to warm and melt the ice caps. However, the ice doesn't melt instantly because the greenhouse effect takes time to work. The melting ice caps of the Arctic produces more carbon dioxide, and in turn more greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Some climate change essay samples do not go into detail on this process. They just talk about the effect of global warming and the affects it has on wildlife, weather patterns, and other aspects of the planet. There are many ways that scientists and other people can try to study this problem, but not all of them will be covered in a climate change essay sample.Another thing that you must not do when using essay samples is mention some celebrities who use the Internet to promote their cause. If you do, the world will be told how terrible the government is when it comes to solving the problem of global warming. This is just not what you want to do. It is e asy to see that if you were to write an essay on global warming, there would be certain things that you should avoid. Now, there are those climate change essay samples that will touch on the problem of global warming and they are just going to come with sidebars to indicate the author's opinion. You should choose your topics carefully and do not think about using climate change essay samples until you have a good idea of what you want to say.

Essay on Freedom and Satan in John Milton’s Paradise Lost

Freedom and Satan in Paradise Lost Satans primary operational problem in Paradise Lost is his lack of obedience. The fundamental misunderstanding which leads to Satans disobedience is his separation of free will from Gods hierarchical power. In the angel Raphaels account, Satan tells his dominions, Orders and Degrees/Jarr not with liberty (5.792-93). Tempting as this differentiation seems, Satan is mistaken. Free will and hierarchical power are not mutually exclusive, as Satan suggests, but overlapping concepts. Even though Satan has been created with sufficient freedom to choose to disobey, he tacitly acknowledges Gods sovereignty when he exercises his choice. Satan is constrained existentially, from the outset, by†¦show more content†¦But if Satan does only what God wants, there is no external proof that Satan indeed had exercised his will. Satan cannot be content with mere assent that looks like blind obedience. Dissent, on the other hand, is absolute proof of Satans individual will being realized over aga inst Gods will. Satans intent seems to be to prove the existence of his will rather than, as God wants, to prove the independently good content of his will. By dissent, Satan shows himself to be more concerned with himself than with God, with the appearance of free will than with its real content. Here is the second major constraint under which Satan lies: as a rule, he only recognizes that part of himself which is disobedient. This constraint, unlike the one natural to Satans will, is self-imposed. Satans pride further constrains him. Because he is able to prove his freedom via dissent, and because he has ignored the fact that his free will comes from God, Satan thinks (or at least tells the angels before his own fall) that all heavenly beings including God are Equally free (5.792). Focused on his own freedom, Satan cannot understand that God has even more freedom than he. When confronted with the hegemonic power of the Son, then, Satan believes that new Laws have been imposed, that God has changed the rules (5.679-80). But this is not a new constraint; it is merely a new formulation of the Godhead. According to Raphael, Satan thinks that to acknowledge the Son would be toShow MoreRelatedTheodicy in John Miltons Paradise Lost792 Words   |  3 PagesJohn Miltons theodicy in Paradise Lost is an attempt to justify the ways of God to men. The Dual Nature of Man in Young Goodman Brown Essay

The Dual Nature of Man in Young Goodman Brown In Young Goodman Brown, Hawthorne tells the story of one man’s loss of faith in the human race. As Goodman Brown travels into the woods one night, he is sees the innermost secrets and desires of the people he once placed upon a pedestal. He sees that humans are evil by nature, and this causes him to lose faith in his fellow man. By viewing the story as an allegory, the journey into the woods is associated with the Puritan concept of justification. The Puritans viewed justification, or the means by which one receives the salvation of Christ, as a psychological journey into the hell (or evil) of the self (Soler). Goodman Brown fails to complete his process of individuation because†¦show more content†¦The Apollonian nature of the human seeks to express itself through representations and illusions (such as art), which was regarded as vulgar to the Puritans. The Dionysian seeks to express itself through the performing arts (such as song or dance) (Foster 63-64). Th is was seen as sinful (one may recall the Salem witch-hunt was started when children were caught dancing in the woods). Brown, growing up Puritan, would have had both of these basic human instincts suppressed. This suggests that something must have brought forth the need for these instincts to express themselves. The marriage of Brown and Faith may have brought these issues forward in his unconscious - or maybe even conscious - mind. Marriage would have â€Å"qualified† Brown to enter the communion of sinners through the sexual nature of the marriage bed. Sexual desires for his wife would have challenged Brown, because of the belief that sex was necessary only for reproduction – not pleasure (Male 78). Sexual desires are associated to the Dionysian (Foster 64). To handle the conflict between faith and desire, Brown would have to come to terms with them, thus introducing the Apollonian instinct of individuation. Brown’s journey into the woods is his journey of individuation, as he must come to terms with the dark desires of his id. For the Puritans, the dark woods are a symbol of mistrust of their own corrupt hearts and faculties (this is also an archetypal symbol), which directlyShow MoreRelatedAnalysis Of The Novel Young Goodman Brown By Nathaniel Hawthorne879 Words   |  4 PagesIn the story † Young Goodman Brown† by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the author demonstrates the ideas of the dual nature of man, which represented by the character Goodman Brown. Jack Worthing, as the Image of Englishman of Victorian Epoch, in The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde

Introduction The Importance of Being Earnest is the famous play by Oscar Wilde, an outstanding English play-writer. The play was highly appreciated by the public and reviewers. Due to its involved plot and a good sense of humor, the play continues to attract a numerous audience at the theatres all over the world.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Jack Worthing, as the Image of Englishman of Victorian Epoch, in The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The aim of this essay is to analyze Jack Worthing, one of the main characters of the play, which the author represented as the typical wealthy Englishman of Victorian epoch. The Fabricated Story John Worthing is the young wealthy gentleman, the owner of a big country mansion. We first meet Jack, as his friends call him, at the London apartment of Algernon Moncrieff, Jack’s best friend. Both friends tired of their ordinary l ife and created the stories about themselves. Algernon says to Jack, â€Å"You have invented a very useful younger brother called Ernest, in order that you may be able to come up to town as often as you like.   I have invented an invaluable permanent invalid called Bunbury, in order that I may be able to go down into the country whenever I choose† (Wilde n.pag.). Jack and Gwendolen At the time when the friends are talking how the things are and sneering at their life, Lady Braknell and Gwendolen, her beautiful daughter, enter the room. Jack and Gwendolen are in love with each other. However, she does not know his real story. Besides, she has always said that her dream is to marry a man named Ernest (Wilde n.pag.). Algernon says that the way Jack flirts with Gwendolen is â€Å"perfectly disgraceful and that  it is almost as bad as the way Gwendolen flirts with him† (Wilde n.pag.). However, the fabricated story prevents Jack’s intention to marry Gwendolen. Lad y Bracknell said that she will not give her daughter in marriage to someone without a family. Jack and Lady Bracknell Probably, the discussion of Lady Bracknell and Jack is one of the most interesting and amusing episodes in the play. From this discussion, we get to know that Jack is twenty-nine years old; he has â€Å"a country house with some land, attached to it, about fifteen hundred acres† and that he lost his parents and does not know a lot about them (Wilde n.pag.). Lady Bracknell also asked him about his political convictions.Advertising Looking for essay on british literature? Let's see if we can help you! Jack.   Well, I am afraid I really have none.   I am a Liberal Unionist Lady Bracknell.   Oh, they count as Tories.   They dine with us.   Or come in the evening, at any rate.  Ã¢â‚¬ (Wilde n.pag.). At the end of the play, the true stories of Jack and Algernon uncover. Nevertheless, Gwendolen agree to marry Jack. Incidentally, it turns out that Jack’s real name is John Ernest. The name was given to him after his father who he had never known. The Main Traits of the Character Witness, respectability and quick mind are the brightest traits of Jack’s character. Despite the conventionalities, Jack shows his good sense of humor and independent outlook. Although he created the false story about himself, he is hardly described as a dishonest man. We know from his dialogue with Lady Bracknell that he does not hide his views, though they are not in his favor sometimes. The idea to create a fabricated story about his life rather shows his desire to take a rest from the conventionalities of the haut monde. Conclusion In order to sum up all above mentioned, it should be said that Jack Worthing is one of the main characters of The Importance of Being Earnest play by Oscar Wilde. He represents the typical Englishman of upper social class of the Victorian epoch; his witness and cleverness make him one of the brightest male characters in Oscar Wilde’s drama. The independence of views characterizes him as a man not used to the conventionalities of the his time. Works Cited Wilde, Oscar 2006, The Importance of Being Earnest. Bpr at Ford Motor Company, India Essays

Bpr at Ford Motor Company, India Essays Bpr at Ford Motor Company, India Paper Bpr at Ford Motor Company, India Paper CHALLENGE: need for business process reengineering in Ford Motor Company Ford Motor Company is the world’s second largest manufacturer of cars and trucks with products sold in more than 200 markets. The company employs nearly 400,000 people worldwide, and has grown to offer consumers eight of the world’s most recognizable automotive brands. CHALLENGE With inherent large-scale growth issues, more demanding customers, and mounting cost pressures, Ford needed to transform from a linear, top-down bureaucratic business model to an Internet ready, nimble organization that engages and integrates customers, suppliers, and employees. SOLUTION Working with Cisco, Ford integrated and leveraged their supplier base by designing Covisint, an end-to-end infrastructure that enables an online, centralized marketplace connecting the automotive industry supply chain. Ford also enhanced the customer buying experience through redesigned and more user friendly Web sites. RESULTS Ford is enjoying an increase in customer satisfaction, sees huge revenue opportunities for developing and retaining loyal product advocates, and has taken both complexity and cost out of the supply chain. BUSINESS PROCESS REENGINEERING Business process reengineering (BPR) is a management approach aiming at improvements by means of elevating efficiency and effectiveness of the processes that exist within and across organizations. The key to BPR is for organizations to look at their business processes from a clean slate perspective and determine how they can best construct these processes to improve how they conduct business. Michael Hammer, the management expert who initiated the reengineering movement, defines reengineering as â€Å"the fundamental rethinking and redesign of business processes to achieve dramatic improvements in critical, contemporary measures of performance, such as cost, quality, service, and speed. It uses many of the tools just discussed to achieve these goals. It is a redesign and reorganization of business activities that results from questioning the status quo. It seeks to fulfill specific objectives and can lead to breakthrough improvement. It is often associated with significant cultural and technological changes. Methodology of reengineering 1. Envision new processes 1. Secure management support 2. Identify reengineering opportunities 3. Identify enabling technologies 4. Align with corporate strategy 2. Initiating change 1. Set up reengineering team 2. Outline performance goals 3. Process diagnosis 1. Describe existing processes 2. Uncover pathologies in existing processes 4. Process redesign 1. Develop alternative process scenarios 2. Develop new process design 3. Design HR architecture . Select IT platform 5. Develop overall blueprint and gather feedback 5. Reconstruction 1. Develop/install IT solution 2. Establish process changes 6. Process monitoring 1. Performance measurement, including time, quality, cost, IT performance 2. Link to continuous improvement In the early 1980s, when the American automotive industry was in a depression, Ford’s top management put accounts payable- along with many other departme nts- under the microscope in search of ways to cut costs. Accounts payable in North America alone employed more than 500 people. Ford was enthusiastic about its plan to tighten accounts payable- until it looked at Mazda. While Ford was aspiring to a 400-person department, Mazda’s accounts payable organization consisted of a total of 5 people. The difference in absolute numbers was astounding, and even after adjusting for Mazda’s smaller size, Ford figured that its accounts payable organization was five times the size it should be. The Ford team knew better than to attribute the discrepancy to calisthenics, company songs, or low interest rates. THE EXISTING SYSTEM First, managers analyzed the existing system. When Ford’s purchasing department wrote a purchasers order, it sent a copy of the receiving document to accounts payable. Meanwhile, the vendor sent an invoice to accounts payable. It was up to accounts payable, then, to match the purchase order against the receiving document and the invoice. If they matched, the department issued payment. The department spent most of its time on mismatches, instances where the purchase order, receiving document, and invoice disagreed. In these cases, an accounts payable clerk would investigate the discrepancy, hold up payment, generate document, and all in gum up the works. THE PROCESS FLOW CHART It was slow and cumbersome. More than 500 accounts payable clerks matched purchase orders, receiving documents and invoices and then issued payment. Mismatches were common. SYSTEM DRAWBACKS: The drawback in this system was that ford’s accounts payable organization was performed by so many people. The department spent most of its time on mismatches, instances where the purchase order, receiving document, and invoice disagreed. In these cases, an accounts payable clerk would investigate the discrepancy, hold up payment, generate document, and all in gum up the works. Its process was not efficient. SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENT The management thought that by rationalizing processes and installing new computer systems, it could reduce the head counts. One way to improve things might have been to help the accounts payable clerk investigate more efficiently, but a better choice was to prevent the mismatches in the first place. To this end, Ford instituted â€Å"invoiceless processing. † Now when the purchasing department initiates an order, it enters the information into an on-line database. It doesn’t send a copy of the purchase order to anyone. When the goods arrive at the receiving dock, the receiving clerk checks the database to see if they correspond to an outstanding purchase order. If so, he or she accepts them and enters the transaction into the computer system. (If receiving can’t find a database entry for the received goods, it simply returns the order. ) Under the old procedures, the accounting department had to match 14 data items between the receipt record, the purchase order, and the invoice before it could issue payment to the vendor. The new approach requires matching only three items- part number, unit of measure, and supplier code- between the purchase order and the receipt record. The matching is done automatically, and the computer prepares the check, which accounts payable sends to the vendor. There are no invoices to worry about since Ford has asked its vendors not to send them. Ford dint settle for the modest increases it first envisioned. It opted for radical change- and achieved improvement. FORD REENGINEERED THE PROCESS. NOW ITS FAST AND EFFICIENT The new process cuts head count in accounts payable by 75%, eliminates invoices and improves accuracy. Matching is computerized. CONCLUSION: Ford discovered that reengineering only the accounts payable department was futile. The appropriate focus of the effort was what might be called the goods acquisition process, which included purchasing and receiving as well as accounts payable. When Ford reengineering its payables, receiving clerks on the dock had to learn to use computer terminals to check shipments, and they had to make decisions about whether to accept the goods. Purchasing agents also had to assume new responsibilities-like making sure the purchase orders they entered into the databases had the correct information about where to send the check. Attitudes towards vendors also had to change: vendors could no longer be seen as adversaries; they had to become partners in a shared business process. Vendors too had to adjust. In many cases, invoices formed the basis of their accounting systems. At one ford supplier adapted by continuing to print invoices, but instead of sending them to Ford threw them away, reconciling cash received against invoices never sent.

Ecotourism in China Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3250 words

Ecotourism in China - Term Paper Example Some of the core areas where ecotourism intends to operate are: facilitating environmental sustainability and ecological conservation of different types of habitats that may exist in a certain geographical region. In addition to this, ecotourism pre-dominantly accentuates upon the social aspects and dimensions of tourism, rather than focusing on acquiring commercial and monetary gains only. Different agendas and programs, which are launched and initiated under the banner of ecotourism policies, intend to launch schemes and awareness programs. By the help of these programs, they can educate and inform people at a massive level. This education looks at different ways through which people can play a proactive role in bettering their very own environment. At the same time, it also urges them to make efforts through which sustainable development of environment is possible. Case of Yixian valley and Ecotourism in China The Yixian Valley is located about 450 km from Shanghai, in the south o f Anhui Province and close to Huangshan. It’s famous for "Yellow Mountains", landscapes and pleasant weather. This valley is a member of the global network of UNESCO Geoparks. By the end of 2004, benefiting from very high investments, the region implemented 290 projects in eight key programs. These programs were aimed at the development of ecotourism, organic farming, and preservation of scenic beauty, energy enhancement, water work industry, development planning and transport. The key selection criteria due to which Yixian has been selected, is the fact that it is one of those places in the country where some serious and high level efforts for the development of ecotourism have taken place in recent years. This place has also been a centre of ecotourism investment, even for... The paper describes some of the fundamental organizations which are playing a proactive part and role in ensuring the sustainability of ecotourism in China. An important company to mention in this context is Wild China. This company was founded in 2000 by entrepreneur Zhang Mei, a Chinese native of Yunnan Province, who was educated in the United States. The company decided to help the government of the province to develop its tourist economy while preserving the beauty of places and cultures. Since its founding, Wild China is naturally oriented towards ecotourism. It started by organizing custom tours for individual travelers and has always proposed routes outside areas traditionally popular with mass tourism. It deliberately started its operations in the western provinces, such as Qinghai and Gansu, where no one was operational in 2000. At that time, all agencies were facing east, the most developed region of China. From the very beginning, the company only worked with local guides, train and paying tourists. It was a revolution since many guides in China are poorly paid and are forced to pay commissions to stores from where they take groups. It also marketed on saving paper by printing brochures on recycled paper and refraining from using plastic in its operations. In places like Beijing, they tried to take tourists to areas less frequented and organized meals with the residents, as well as the traditional tai-chi workshops. Since then, that unique business proposition of Wild China has been copied! For them, the goal is not to "make China" but to meet Chinese people.

History of Modern Painting Essay Example for Free

History of Modern Painting Essay The rise in popularity of primitivism can be united with two other prevalent forces in Europe during the late 19th century, theology and industrialization. Naturally dissatisfaction with European life increased, steeped in centuries of monarchies, wars, feudal wars, and multiple revolutions. Christ symbols, towering church steeples, and scads of spiritually historical iconography permeated nearly all of the Europe, even while its principles waned. Meanwhile, Europe began to feel the effects of its going industrial centers. In the 1860s, Paris radically rejuvenated itself under Napoleon III and Haussmann’s city restructuring. Apartments, streets, transportation, and commerce were all restructured, becoming new, uniform, sleek, and systemized. Conditionally, primitivism is understood as the ‘other’ through Western perception. This implies that outsiders to Europe are different inherently, and deserve special attention. While Europe idolizes themes of cleanliness, efficiency, and puritan values, the ‘other’ offered an escape into a world that was perceived as exotic, mystically spiritual, and entirely natural. In â€Å"Avant-Garde and Kitsch,† Clement Greenberg says that avant-garde criticism â€Å"has not confronted our present society with timeless utopias, but has soberly examined . . . the forms that lie at the heart of every society. † Vincent Van Gogh, in an attempt to recover simplified realism, focused on less urban subjects. He moved to south France and began painting provincial scenes using thick impasto paint application. Paul Gauguin joined Van Gogh to establish the Studio of the South in Arles in 1988; however, even this is not removed enough from modern Western values. Gauguin had â€Å"studied medieval art (sculpture, tapestries, and stained glass), Primitive woodcuts, and certain types of exotic art which he had seen at the World’s Fair of 1889. † Comparatively, the Western projection of art appeared to him dystopic, and he sought renewal in submersing himself in Tahitian culture. Warily, Gauguin traveled to a country under French rule at the time, guaranteeing him ‘safe’ primitivism than un-Colonized areas. In Tahiti, Gauguin painted with no shaded areas of depth and rounded, blunt features, loose applications of representative color, as seen Maternite II. All this, added with mythical looking mist and bare women give a sense of pastoral serenity of antiquity, while also remaining distinctly different than the European spectator who enjoyed the painting. The women are all dark-skinned and blissfully exposed, while engaging the viewing to partake of the serenity of the scene. Gauguin used Primitive representative techniques, by favoring simplified, unenlightened forms or expression. As Imperialism extended the relations between Europe and civilizations that were previously untouched by European ideology. Simplified, organic forms of nature and natural life were fluidly exposed to European culture, including Gauguin’s paintings. It was completely antithetical to anything appreciated in the West in form, staging, or perspective. Another feature of Westerners embracing primitivism can be found in Samuel Butler’s novel Erewhon. In the utopia/dystopia world of Erewhon there is a complete absence of machines, simply because any variety of them could prove potentially dangerous. This novel was published at a time when industrialized nations began relying more on machines in industry, and features an extreme alternative that demonstrates the allure of the Primitive who live the ‘other’ lifestyle. Those who see modern Western life as a dystopia can find its ultra alternative in the Primitive. Thus artists flee for simpler, idyllic or virginal locals, consequently implying that something is inherently wrong with the Europe, its industry, theology, and ideology. An Essay on Chan -- essays research papers

An Essay Answering Questions From the Assigned Text by Faure   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  This essay will attempt to answer questions coming from the Bernard Faure text assigned in class. The questions are as follows: How does Hu Shih’s approach to Chan differ from D.T. Suzuki’s? Why was the scholarship of the Japanese on Zen not objective? What does Faure mean by the teleological fallacy? What does he mean by the two alternative approaches he suggests: structural analysis and hermeneutics?   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  How does Hu Shih’s approach to Chan differ form D.T. Suzuki’s? To answer this we must first recognize that Hu Shih emphasizes the historicism of Chan, meaning he places great importance on the historical aspect, while Suzuki aligns himself with the metaphysics aspect. Suzuki states that there are two kinds of people who can talk about Zen: The first(Suzuki), which is one who has a firm grasp on the concepts and greatly understands Zen, the other(Hu Shih), someone who is utterly unable to grab the concepts. Suzuki states that Hu Shih may know Zen historically, but that he does not actually know Zen. Suzuki says about Hu Shih that â€Å"it is not a historians business not talk about Zen.† Hu argues that ‘a historic approach to Zen cannot be reduced to the circumstances of its emergence and how it â€Å"transmits its situation of departure into a means to understand itself and others.’† Since Hu Shih is from the academic world , his approach to Zen is more factual, while ...

African-American History Timeline 1840 to 1849

A big proponent of ESL learning, what my case study consists of, can be compared to David Kolb’s framework of experiential learning. Kolb’s experiential learning cycle features four stages: the concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualisation, and active experimentation. The first stage, concrete experience, involves doing or having an experience. The second stage, reflective observation, involves reviewing or reflecting on the experience. The third stage, abstract conceptualisation, involves concluding or learning from the experience. The fourth stage, active experimentation, involves planning or trying out what you learned. The Perspective Of A Human Resource Manager - 964 Words

According to a press release distributed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), fiscal year 2014 â€Å"had 88,778 charges of workplace discrimination† (EEOC, 2015). In contrast, the comparatively low number of cases publicized is a testament to the efficiency of the EEOC’s processes. The EEOC is not out to get employers, but was â€Å"Established to administer and enforce the Civil Rights Act at work† (Dessler, 2015, p. 28). The EEOC’s processes are well defined, fair and offer various options and opportunities that can lead to resolution rather than litigation. They are an impartial body, just as Christ in Romans 2:11, â€Å"For there is no partiality with God† (Biblegateway, 1993). This paper will provide a company or manager’s a need to know overview of the EEOC enforcement process and will discuss the personal application from the perspective of a Human Resource Manager. Originating from Title VII of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964, the EEOC enforces anti-discrimination law by â€Å"handling claims, initiating and investigating charges of discrimination filed against employers† (Kimbell, 2011). Each claim is funneled through channels that eventually impose compliance with the law. The process begins when an individual files a claim within a 300-day statutory period from the date of the act, or 180 days in some states, of the discrimination based on â€Å"Race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, disability, and genetics or in retaliation for opposing jobShow MoreRelatedHalifax - Performance of Branch 54461675 Words   |  7 Pagesthe perspectives of Human Resources, Operations, Markets, Finance and Accounting, and Information, which are associated with the Halifax’s Balanced Scorecard quadrants and theory ‘Z’. Language as way to communicate with people Essay Example For Students

Language as way to communicate with people Essay If we receive a gift from someone, which we didnt expected, brings a lot of happiness to us. We get shock and sometime we scream. Sometime we get so excited that we cant express our feeling. When a child is born he/she gets a gift of language from the God. Which he/she cant hide and announce by crying. He/she tells us they also got a gift of language like everyone does. Language is not limited to any race, country and religion. Language is not only of one kind. They are as many as the stars on the sky. Language spreads over the world as the bird spreads its wings. Languages are unlike, like flowers which are of different types and they smell different. Language is not only spoken between human. In addition, language is also spoken between animals. Such as, dogs bark and cats meow etc. If the language is common in both human and animals then the question is raised what is a language? The combination of some words which spilt out from the mouth by he help of tongue and lips and produces noise voice is called language. Language is the power of life/tongue, which explore all the different ways to communicate peoples. Language is the identity of a person. Language denominates the persons personality. It describes the ability of a person like a persons education and his background. What kind of family he belong too? In a group of multi nationality peoples. You can figure out what kind of nationality each of them have by their language and you can guess which country they belong to. For example, a person specking Russian is probably from Russia and Arabic specking is from Arab etc. Even some professions are identifies by a specific language and only they can understand that language. Such as, medical language Biology, identify the doctors and an ordinary person cant understand their language. Mathematic languages identify the engineers. Somehow, a person religion can be identified by his holly book language. For example, Arabic language describes the Muslims, Hebrew describes the Jews and English describe the Christians. The holly books are in these languages and they are translated in to many languages. Language is the beauty of humanity, without language a person is disable. Language is beautiful just like a rainbow, which look gorgeous after the rain when the sun shows up. Exactly like that a person look great when he generate some beautiful words from his mouth. Language is a kind of skill, a skill by which you can impress peoples by using a good and descent language. Language can make you attractive to peoples and you can get their attention. For example, a leader with his speech and a poet with his poetry can get the attention of the public by the skill of language. Poetry makes the person beautiful because its a good language. Language is also a kind of education and an education makes a person beautiful because education will not let the person to use harsh language. Without any language a person is just like a disable person. A person who dont have legs or who is blind or who is missing any organ of his body. Imagine if a person is missing any part of his body then how he/she will look like. Probably he will not look good. If a person cant communicate he or she is like that disable person. Language is so exquisite, that it could make an enemy a friend. For example, if someone is mad, yelling and want to fight with you. But, you dont reply him as he does. You use soft and good language. He will feel that he is wrong and he might not apologize but he will feel guilty. .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75 , .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75 .postImageUrl , .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75 , .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75:hover , .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75:visited , .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75:active { border:0!important; } .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75:active , .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75 .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u50e7c624d30288eb89a5c5ae6ba96e75:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: jackie robinson EssayLanguage is a punishment from God, who faces the problem of communication. Language is taken for granted. Somebody somewhere doesnt have it and that is the punishment. If someone couldnt communicate then he or she is blind because blind person cant see any thing and a person who dont speck a language couldnt enjoy the life. Some peoples are naturally dumb they cant speck. On the other hand, some people can speck but, they become dumb. For example if a person from Spanish colony moves into English colony and cant speck English. He will not able to communicate with others. His life will be boring and he will feel he is in some kind of prison. Language is an art, skill which has many roots and it makes life easy as well as difficult if you dont know the language. According to anthropologist there are no primitive people on the earth today and there are no primitive languages either. Because, the art of language had changed them. All language that we know about, including those that are no longer anyones native language such as, Latin, Homeric Greek etc. are reconstructed to modern language as French, Spanish, Russian etc. Even English language is reconstructed by changing the simple words to hard. For example our ancient used to use the words die, arrest and fat etc in their regular English language. But, in modern, today we use these word in different way like pass away, apprehend and chubby etc. In the currently time English is consider as an international language, so that every one could communicate with each other. But, there are some other languages too, such as Chinese, Russian and Spanish etc. with out learning them a person who is not from them and having a business with them might lose his business or they could fraud him. I think every one should learn as many as languages as he can. Because, its a world of opportunity and no one should let it go so simply. I also participate in the different roots of language. My native language is Urdu and I learned Arabic and English. Learning an other language is a great experience. When I migrated to America I couldnt speck English and I felt my self as a dumb person because I couldnt communicate with peoples and I spoke to others in a sign language. Finally, I got to learn a skill of English language and know, I can communicate freely to anyone.
